It all started in 2007, with father and son Bill and Nick Spotswood, the former retired from an international confectionery business and the latter a civil engineer from Polokwane, when they bought a Blaauwklippen Road property in Stellenbosch’s ’Golden Triangle’.
They inherited a young vineyard with Chardonnay, Shiraz, Viognier, and a rare South African red wine varietal, Durif.
The first bottling of this unique grape was in 2011.Since then, Spotswood Wines has produced 7 harvests of Durif – 2016 being the inaugural
vintage of a South African first-of-a-kind Durif Dry Rose.
